Telangana Karimnagar’s Geographical Indication Silver Filigree blinged at the Ambani’s Wedding!

Even though the pre-wedding festivities of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant happened in March of this year, we simply cannot stop talking about it because it was the definition of “Big fat Indian wedding”. The evening was filled with glitz and glam from all across the globe, including Rihanna who performed for two hours for a fee of $6 million. The event hosted around 1200 guests including several international celebrities and business tycoons. The internet spoke about the event for months on end and the trend will continue because the couple was all set to tie the knot on July 12 2024.

Silver filigree articles from Karimnagar, Telangana are all set to play a major role as they will be given to the high-profile guest list at the wedding. Sources say that an order of at least 400 items with designs of peacock, jewellery box, plates, etc have been placed with Silver Filigree of Karimnagar (SIFKA) by Nita Ambani’s representatives for her son’s wedding. Talking to newspapers Ashok, the artist who will be delivering this order said that he has been working with Reliance retail from November 2023 and was a part of their “Swadesh” programme.

Silver Filigree of Karimnagar (SIFKA) has been granted the tag of Geographical Indication in the year 2007 recognizing its cultural and historical significance. A Geographical Indication is a tag issued by the Geographical Indication Registry under the Department of Industry Promotion and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry. It comes under Intellectual Property Rights and is issued to signify the specific geographical original and possession of qualities or a reputation that are due to that origin. This certification helps in preserving the authenticity and protecting the true artisans of the craft as it gives the area an exclusive right to manufacture and sell. Some of the other examples of famous Geographical Indications are Mysore silk saree and Bandar Laddu.
